On Wednesday, May 7, Kay Leaman broke her hip when her beloved dog dashed out to flirt with a another canine in a passing car. The leash wrapped around Kay’s leg and over she went. She was flown down to Kaiser in SR, went through rehab and was released in record time (you can’t keep a great gal down). Susan Biven’s reports that Kay’s husband Bruce called her and said that Kay was so worried about not being able to help with the quilt show that she had insisted he call to let Susan know. Amazing Kay is home now, with an incredibly positive attitude. Her gourmet chef husband Bruce is keeping her well fed and her daughter is a wonderful caregiver. We all miss her immensely and wish her the speediest of recoveries.
from Susan Bivens and Lynne Calder
Note from Kay:
“My recovery is coming along rapidly, in fact, I saw Mary Kay at Harvest yesterday when my daughter took me shopping (without my walker!).
My letter of thanks to the community was in the Advocate last week with all the details of my ordeal. If you don't see it there, let me know.
I see the surgeon who performed my surgery on 6/24, but hope to be back to club before that.”

My daughter, Joan Marler, is in Sibia, Romania now conducting a seminar at a museum there. She is the President of the Institute of Archaeomythology.
I am preparing to sponsor a 21 year old Chinese boy for a student visa to attend SR Junior College Fall semester. Many years ago I told his father I would invite him to the US to attend the Cactus and Succulent convention with me in Denver if he would start the first ever society in China. He found 70 people very willing to form the society, but when I sent him sponsorship papers he was denied his visitors visa. Now 20 years later I am able to sponsor his son for a educational visa. Some day I will write an entire story on the China story as it is such an important part of my life.
