Looking for someone to take over the paper newsletter.
After 5 years of being editor of the newsletter I have to step back. Because of my increased hours as a computer technician at Mendocino Community Network in Mendocino driving to meetings on Thursdays has become an impossibility. With those extra hours plus my Computer One-on-One business there’s no longer the time to put out the paper edition of the Sentinel. I’ll still maintain the website and put the newsletter on the site with your help! Send me news and items and I’ll be happy to put them up on the website Sentinel at any time. Hope to still help out at the events, so I’ll see everyone there. Will miss the luncheon meetings, you’re a wonderful group with whom to spend time. Hopefully in time I’ll be able to rejoin you.
from Lynne Calder
Note from President Jeanne:
If no one steps up then that will be the end of the newsletter. I cannot do it each month myself. At the brainstorming session (August 14th) we will go over the newsletter situation and see if anyone has any ideas about it.

A secret pal is someone you remember for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. On these special occasions, or maybe just for no good reason, you find a little gift that you think they would like based on the information they provided.
The secret pal year begins in October and runs to the end of September. At the last meeting of September the secret pals from the previous year are revealed.
During the first couple of meetings in September, each member who chooses to participate should complete a new profile This profile is then given to the secret pal assigned to this member so they have some information to assist them in finding gifts. New secret pals will be assigned on September 25th and the new secret pal year will begin on the first of October.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions. Thanks, Twila - 964-5474
Oh boy, it'll be great to get back to club! Hey, The Coast is again up for the Marconi Award for Rock Station of the Year and our wonderful Midday, Music Director, Promotions Director, Assistant Programmer, Right Hand, Kate Hayes, has again become a finalist for Personality of the Year for Small Markets (I like to call us a micro market). Tom, me, Kate and her husband David will head to Austin Texas in mid-September... wish us luck.

From the Attendance Committee: HI everyone! Where did July go? Anyway------ hope to see you all next Thursday for our first meeting back. Please be sure and call me if you are going to not be able to attend so I can get the numbers to the Senior Center. I need to call the Center before 2 pm on Wednesday afternoon before the next day's meeting. Also if you are going to be on Leave of Absence I would also need to know the dates of that. Kay Leaman is going to be on the committee this year.
Thanks so much and see you Thursday.

Mary Kay Hoffmann, certified diver, had a busy summer....”We went to Cabo at the beginning for a wedding, that was great! The weather was HOT and the water was gorgeous! We were able to go scuba diving and snorkeling, and enjoyed Bob's family immensely! Right after we got home, my daughter and her husband and my granddaughter, Aivery, all came out to visit and stayed a whole week. We loved having them here, and now our house seems so empty without them. They were able to see all sorts of things, and kept very busy, even when we had to work! We dropped them off in SF yesterday, and now I am getting ready to see my sister. She flies into SF on Tuesday, so I am going down there to spend a little time with her. Whew!!!!!!” and now, Mary Kay reports, her daughter is pregnant again, so she’s looking forward to another grandchild. A happy grandma indeed.

At last week's meeting a suggestion was made that we start a book club. No organization has been done at this time, but Kay Leaman is most interested in getting this started. If anyone else would like to join Kay just let her know. Her email is winesnob@mcn.org and her phone is 961-0996. I am sure she would be happy to hear from you and would appreciate your input into getting this group started.

Courtney in front of the Geography building last March (when she and I were on our long planned Tulip Trip visiting Sweden, Holland, Belgium and Denmark)
Just dropped my daughter Courtney off at the airport to fly to Lund, Sweden to attend LUMES, a 2-year International Master’s Programme in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science at the University of Lund. There are about 75 students from over 30 different countries in the program, with free tuition. (Sweden has very progressive and successful environmental policies which they’ve been implementing for decades. They want to spread the knowledge they’ve accrued throughout the world). Courtney, who speaks French, is living in a house with a Swede, a New Zealander and a Frenchman. It’s like a mini United Nations, very exciting. I’m going to miss her terribly but we’ve already figured out how to video conference for free computer to computer and then there’s the ticket I have for Sweden in December (we didn’t want her to be alone over Christmas.)

I’m amazed we used up our mountain of packing peanuts (AKA ghost turds), but we actually need more now. If you have any extras, please drop them off at my office during business hours. We're on the corner of Cypress and Franklin streets, kitty-corner from the police station.
Many thanks for helping us recycle. Yes, I did -- That's why I put the PS in about not wanting bubblewrap. Best,
from Cynthia Frank
P.S. We do NOT want bubble wrap....We've got tons of that. (Some of the folks we ship to charge extra if we ship in materials that they don't condone....)
